CALLING:God has called West Angeles
Community Development Corporation (West Angeles CDC) to promote justice and peace, demonstrate compassion
and eradicate poverty as tangible expressions of the Kingdom of God through the vehicle of community development.
West Angeles CDC subscribes to community development as a liberating process aimed
at Economic Empowerment, Social Justice and Community Transformation.
IDENTITY:
West Angeles CDC operates within the greater ministry and
vision of West Angeles Church of God in Christ supporting the linkage between church and
community.
West Angeles CDC represents and effort of believers in Jesus
Christ to reach out in witness and ministry based on the conviction that the Gospel of
Jesus Christ is relevant to, and able to significant impact the community in which they
live and serve.
West Angeles CDC is part of a broad movement of Christian
churches seeking to promote social change through Christian Community Development.
PURPOSE:Economic Empowerment
To develop and foster programs and enterprises which provide
lasting employment opportunity.
To actively engage community leaders, residents, business
leaders and others in planning, and evaluating development projects.
To develop and rehabilitate affordable, low- and
mixed-income housing in and around the Crenshaw area.
To serve as a base for technical assistance and community
development strategizing in Los Angeles.
Social Justice
To foster conditions of economic and social justice by local
participation, mobilization of community resources, and raising people's awareness of
their ability to shape their own future.
To promote literacy and creative educational initiatives
among adults.
To advocate for and administer English as a Second Language
(ESL) curricula in meeting the educational needs of a burgeoning Latino population.
