Some Christians have swallowed
the lie from the enemy that “It’s okay, because everybody is doing it.”
NO, it’s not ok! The Bible says “flee sexual immorality!” I see no room in
God’s Word for lingering around or testing out sexual immorality…do you?
(1Corinthians 6:18 “Flee from sexual immorality. All other sins a man commits
are outside his body, but he who sins sexually sins against his own body.”)
Some Christians have also believed the lie that “so long as you don’t
go all the way, it’s not a sin. This kind of argument may work with worldly
Christians and unbelievers, but to those wanting to do the will of God, and to
those who know what God’s Word says, this argument and rationale go against
God’s WORD.
God has not created our bodies to start and stop on a dime sexually. Yet
young (and not so young) people foolishly convince themselves, “Oh I can stop
when things begin to go too far.” Too many have learned that this is NOT true.
The more a fire is fed, the more difficult it is to extinguish. (Proverbs
6:27, “Can a man take fire in his bosom and his clothes not be burned?”)
Sex is not just a physical act. It is an act of body, soul, and spirit. Long
after the physical occurs, the imprint remains. Funny, the sex in the movies seems to leave that out. Many
believers disobey God by allowing emotional and hormonal fires to build up even
though they stop short of sexual intercourse!
We have not been called to lean upon the world’s standards, but to
please God and to obey HIS WORD. It is expected and commanded by God.
So what if you have had sex in the past or
even last night? You can repent (turn away) and start over again today. (Proverbs 28:13, “He who
conceals his sins does not prosper, but
whoever confesses and renounces them finds mercy.”) While you still
may have the scars of the past, you won’t be adding new garbage on top of the
old. God gives us the strength to resist temptations that would cause harm to
others or ourselves. (Isaiah
41:10 …for I am thy God: I will strengthen
thee…”) If you cry out to God, he will support you and he will give
you the strength to maintain your commitment to remain abstinent until you are
married.
It is time that we stopped being selfish and thinking about our desires
and what we think we need, and start getting serious about God’s business. (Galatians 6:8, “The one who
sows to please his sinful nature, from that nature will reap destruction; the
one who sows to please the Spirit, from the Spirit will reap eternal life.”) The
devil would love for nothing more than to see you giving in to sexual desire
outside of the covenant of marriage. If you straddle the fence long enough you
will land in the devil’s playground, and he will have you believing that no
one will find out…let’s get real and stop playing with the enemy, because he
is NOT playing with us.
