Reverend Ellis Concludes 2014 with ‘It’s Almost Midnight’ Sermon

West Angeles Church of God In Christ was honored to have Bishop J. Delano Ellis and his wife, Pastor Sabrina Ellis, visit on December 28, 2014.

Reverend Ellis delivered West Angeles’ last Sunday sermon of 2014 titled, “It’s Almost Midnight.” He used the Apostle Paul’s shipwrecked voyage to Rome in Acts 27 as an analogy for the many challenges saints around the world have faced during the past year. Bishop Ellis also lightened the mood, however, by keeping the congregation laughing; reminding us that God is still in control.

Bishop J. Delano Ellis is a native of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He currently serves as the Senior Pastor of the Pentecostal Church of Christ, in University Circle, Cleveland, Ohio. Bishop Ellis is the founding president, chairman, and Archbishop-Metropolitan of the Joint College of African-American Pentecostal Bishops, and he is recognized throughout the U.S. as a leader in the Holiness Pentecostal Community.

Some of our favorite quotes follow:

“At the beginning of the year, the devil told some of you that you weren’t going to make it. Caught him in another lie!”

“Do you ever think to yourself, ‘Where is the next war going to be fought?’”

“America needs to be humble; God’s been merciful.”

“You came out of hell – and you have to be told to give God glory?”

“Our choirs do more swinging than singing!”

“God does some of His best work in the dark.” – Bishop J. Delano Ellis

“One of the curses of the times is knowledge.”

“Sometimes you can’t listen to the majority.”

“If God says anything about anything – that’s it!”

“If God said it, that settles it –  whether you believe it or not!”

“Marriage didn’t start with the government: it started with God.”

“You and I belong to God.”

“God gave my storm instructions on how to handle me.”

“God’s not dead. He’s looking at your boat; He’s guiding your storm.”

“You’re not going under: you’re going over!”

“You and I have a Divine promise…He promised never to leave you.”

“It’s almost midnight – but God is still in control.”
