Celebrating Women’s History Month

Celebrating Women's History Month

Women’s History Month is an annual celebration that recognizes the achievements and contributions women have made to society.

Women’s History Month, which first began with International Women’s Day in 1911, expanded to a week-long celebration in 1980 and a month-long celebration in 1987.

The road to recognition and equality hasn’t been easy. Women have had to fight to overcome women’s suffrage, equality in the workplace, financial freedoms, and the opportunity to fight in military combat. Many courageous women have stepped forward to help overcome sexual injustice and have become exemplary contributors of society.

The Journey

women's rights timeline

Women played an important role in the earliest years of Christianity. The Bible richly confirms the value of women, and many women can provide us with spiritual insights through the choices they made in their lives. Though these God-fearing women have lived in a completely different era, they can serve as role models.

“She is clothed with strength and dignity, and she laughs without fear of the future.” (Proverbs 31:25)
